Do I need a domain name?

No, your website will be hosted at as a subdomain of a domain owned by us. It will appear as something like .onehourwebsite.com.au

However, we strongly recommend obtaining your own domain name. This will be portable between website hosts in the event you decide you want to move your site to another service provider at some point in the future. You will then be able to RETAIN your domain name. Your own domain name also gives you a stable email address that need not change as long as you own your domain name. You will not need to change your email address every time you change your ISP.

What if I don’t have a scanner or a digital camera?

If you’d like to add your own photos, your local photo developer will usually have the ability to scan images either from a printed photo, negative, or transparency (such as colour slide). It will probably only cost a few dollars per scan, but usually there are good discounts for bulk scanning, so collect all your images together and have them scanned at one time in order to save the most money.

If you have a digital camera it’s easy, or if you don’t just take them with a film camera and have the negatives scanned.

When you upload pictures to your website, you should use either .jpg or .gif format (which are compressed file formats). Each image file should not exceed about 100KB in size or they will load to slowly when someone visits your website. Ideally they will be between 20KB and 50KB in size.
